As Seen in Living Well: The Inspiring Story of a Future Nurse

A recent article in Aging Partners’ Living Well magazine highlights an incredible story of determination, community support, and the power of literacy.

The article shares the story of Taina, a refugee who came to the U.S. from Haiti in June 2023. She had a dream of becoming a nurse but faced a major hurdle: she knew only Haitian Creole and French. After connecting with Lincoln Literacy, her journey of transformation began.

In a remarkable feat, Taina mastered English in just one year, a process that can often take up to five. She then completed our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) prep course, earned her certification through Southeast Community College, and is now a working CNA. Her ambition continues as she pursues her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification, with a job offer from Bryan Health already secured for her 2026 graduation.

Taina’s success is a testament to her hard work and the dedication of volunteers who guide our students. As our Executive Director Bryan Seck says, “We help prepare people for success.”

We are so proud of Taina and grateful to Aging Partners for featuring her journey.
