Lincoln Literacy has been awarded $14,406 from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s Thrive and Retain Initiative! This funding will help us expand our driving education programs, ensuring more people have access to the skills and resources needed to thrive in the workforce.
With this support, we will:
- Offer a new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program in 2025, helping students transition into in-demand careers.
- Provide transportation to the DMV for students working toward learner’s permits and non-commercial driver’s licenses.
- Continue using our driving simulators to build confidence and improve pass rates for permit and driving tests.
Bryan Seck, Lincoln Literacy’s executive director, is excited about the prospects. Explaining the main idea behind these initiatives, he stated, “. . . by having two parents that can drive, you’re increasing the odds of good school attendance. You’re increasing the ability for students, for parents, to get around town, and also just getting people acclimated.”
Sandra Rojo, Associate Director for ELL Programs, also believes in the many benefits of these initiatives, notably in Lincoln Literacy’s efforts to provide transportation for students to the DMV. “By them going with someone they trust and they know. I feel like it adds to their confidence on going and trying and possibly passing the test.”
