This May, your gift to Lincoln Literacy provides the bridge for neighbors like Thuzar and Alba to move from entry-level jobs to fulfilling, in-demand careers.
Thuzar was working a minimum-wage job until, in 2023, she joined our English classes and our CNA Prep program, a partnership with Bryan Health. She credits Lincoln Literacy with giving her the “medical vocabulary and the confidence to speak up” in a fast-paced clinical setting. Lincoln Literacy walked with her every step of the way, including watching her earn a student leadership award in 2024! Today, she is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Bryan Health and is pursuing a registered nursing degree at Southeast Community College.
And Alba, once a beginner student, shared with us at our 2025 Global Celebration that she now has achieved her dream of becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines.
Thuzar and Alba are part of a growing wave of students ready to power Lincoln’s workforce.

Thuzar and Alba’s paths are two of more than 3,000 stories made possible each year through Lincoln Literacy — thanks to donors like you. Your gift helps us keep moving forward. Specifically:
- $50 = One week of classroom materials at our community sites.
- $100 = Volunteer tutor training materials for monthly workshops.
- $500 = One week of van transport to day and evening classes for refugees.
- $1,000 = Childcare at a community site for one year.
- $2,500 = One whole semester, including van transport and childcare, at a community site.

By Check: You can mail a check to the Lincoln Community Foundation (215 Centennial Mall S, Ste 100, Lincoln, NE 68508) with “Lincoln Literacy” in the memo line. Checks must be postmarked by May 21 to count toward the match!
IRA/Donor Advised Funds: Gifts via IRA or DAF are also eligible for the match if initiated by mid-May.
Between May 1 and May 28, your gift is increased by a $650,000 match fund. Please join us in helping our neighbors find the words they need to succeed.
